The Ignition Amplifier in your Jaguar is an electronic module that receives small low current signals from the engine management system or the distributor, and switches a high output current to the ground, charging the coil to provide a spark as and when required. Older systems used points and condensers, but the Ignition Amplifier is a more reliable setup and doesn't require regular servicing and adjustment.
